EX-KING ALFONSO
SON FORGIVEN FOR MARRYING.
(United Press Assn. —Telegraph Copyright.) Geneva, June 25.
Ex-King Alfonso has forgiven the Prince of the Asturias for marrying in defiance of his wishes. The couple, who are spending their honeymoon in Switzerland, received the ex-King’s cable bestowing his benediction and wishing them happiness.
A recent cablegram stated that exKing Alfonso of Spain was so firmly opposed to the marriage of the Prince of the Asturias to Senorita Edelmira San Pedro Ocjez that he had reduced the Prince’s monthly allowance. In addition Alfonso warned the Prince that such a marriage would not be recognized by anybody in the Spanish Royal Family and that the Prince’s wife would not be received in Spanish Court circles. Both ex-King Alfonso and ex-Queen Ena regarded the posting of the banns of the marriage in Lausanne Town Hall as an act that severed the Prince from the rest of the family. The ex-Queen also intimated that under no circumstances would she or any other member of the Spanish Royal Family be present at the wedding. The Prince, at the instigation of the Duke of Miranda, then renounced his rights of succession to the Spanish throne and they revert to exKing Alfonso’s second son, Don Jaime.
