LADIES’ HOCKEY
EASTERN SOUTHLAND GAMES. The Eastern Southland Ladies’ Hockey Association commenced the second round of its competitions yesterday in very unfavourable weather conditions. The playing areas, although inclined to be slippery, were in fair condition and some fast hockey was witnessed. A GRADE. EX-HIGH v. WAIKAKA. Playing on Hockey Park Ex-High defeated Waikaka by four goals to nil after a hard fought but somewhat ragged game. In the opening stages of the game the play was fairly even, but Ex-High were always on the attack and after a bright movement which carried play in Waikaka’s circle, M. Murdock goaled. Ex-High 1, Waikaka 0. There was no further score before half-time. Waikaka appeared to pick up after the interval, but it was only a flash in the pan, and Ex-High took command once more, adding three more goals to their total before the final whistle. For Ex-High M. Murdock scored two goals and M. Belsham two goals. Mr H. Halliday refereed. , MATAURA Av. HOKONUI. By defeating Hokonui by two goals to nil, Mataura A worked themselves into top position in the senior competition level with Hokonui. The match was played at Mataura and attracted keen interest. Mr G. C. Hamilton was the referee. MIMIHAU v. HIGH SCHOOL A. At Mimihau the local team defeated High School A by five goals to one. Mrs Hopkins was the referee. B GRADE. Wyndham defeated High School by six goals to one at Wyndham. Although outclassed by their more experienced opponents, High School gave an improved showing. Hokonui defaulted to Wyndham High School.
