WINTON NOTES
BOY SCOUTS’ SOCIAL. On Saturday evening a representative gathering of boy scouts, numbering over 60, from Invercargill, Riverton, Ryal Bush and Winton assembled at the Drill Hall on the occasion of a concert given by the local troop. Besides the scouts and a few of the public, there were present the Commissioner, Mr F. G. Hall-Jones, the District Commissioner, Mr L. Wilson, Group Scoutmaster F. Weymouth, Scoutmasters J. Tomlison (all Invercargill), W. Bruce (Ryal Bush), A. D. Mclvor (Riverton) and the Winton leaders, District Scoutmaster V. Lea and Scouters H. de la Perrelle and W. Egerton. Prior to the commencement of the concert, Mr Lea briefly extendel a welcome to all present and mentioned that it had been the intention to have the full parade march through the main street, but owing to the weather this idea had to be abandoned. He hoped that the attendance of the visiting scouts would given an incentive to the Scout movement in Winton, and create much needed public interest.
The varied programme was entertaining from start to finish and culminated in the staging of a mock court.
