SPANISH PLOTTERS
MONARCHIST CONSPIRACY. DEPORTATION FOR LEADER. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Madrid, May 8. A plot for the overthrow of the Government has been discovered. General Goded, who, with Major Franco, was responsible for the fall of the dictatorship, has been deported to the Canary Islands for alleged complicity in a monarchist conspiracy. General Orgaz has fled to Portugal. The discovery of the plot was due to a chance arrest of a jewel thief. The movement depended on the collaboration of the troops in the Basque province where religious issues have created unrest, Barcelona, Valladolid and Valencia being expected to assist in a bloodless rebellion, exiling the Cabinet and so making room for the Right Wing majority to possibly restore the monarchy. Widespread precautions are being taken, particularly in view of the prospects of a large syndicalist strike.
