PRESENTATION TO TEACHER. (From Our Correspondent.) Miss C. F. Miller, who has been assistant teacher in the Wairio School for almost two and a half years, was tendered a farewell in Gardner’s Hall on Wednesday evening. The building was tastefully decorated with streamers and greenery, and there was a good attendance of the public. The function took the form of a presentation and dance. Music was supplied by Messrs Epan and Barnfield’s orchestra. Messrs J. J. Finn and J. Valli acted as M.C’s. At a suitable interval Mr J. J. Finn, who officiated as chairman thanked Miss Miller for the good work she had done, and wished her health, happiness and prosperity. Miss Ainsley Rollo then presented Miss Miller with a bouquet. Miss Ngaire Rollo, the guest’s oldest pupil, made the presentation of a trayelling rug. Messrs R. Donnelly, C. Rollo, J. Hemmings and H. Laytham also spoke, stressing the loss the district would suffer by the departure of Miss Miller. Mrs Laytham, president of the Basketball Club, referred to the good work the guest had done for the club. Miss Molly Pope endorsed the remarks of the president, and presented Miss Miller with a hand-bag. Miss Miller thanked the residents for their handsome presents, stating they would remind her of the happy times she had spent amongst them, and also thanked Mr Laytham (headmaster), Mrs Laytham, the.school committee and parents for the assistance they had given her at all times. During the evening Miss Griffiths sang songs. Miss Miller left on Saturday .morning for Tinwald, where she has accepted a position. Her successor is Miss Laura Dodds, of Charlton. There was a large attendance at the dance in the Wreys Bush Hall on Friday evening. The building was tastefully decorated for the occasion with streamers , and greenery. Music was- supplied by Messrs Egan’s and Stroud’s orchestras, while the duties of Masters of Ceremonies were carried out by Messrs D. McGrath and J. J. Finn. Miss Betty Lynch and Mr W. Finn were the winners of the Monte Carlo waltz. There was a good attendance at the euchre social in aid of the funds of the dental clinic. The winners were Miss Sherman and Mr H. Cuthbertson, while Mrs A. D. Crawford and Mr A. Forde were the runners-up. Threshing operations are about finished in the district, and some good yields of both oats and ryegrass are reported. Mr J. Valli recorded a yield of 100 bushels of : oats per acre from a field of 45 acres, the sample (Gartons) being a particularly fine one. The coal mines in the district are fairly, active just now, and the railway traffic is busier than for some time past. Personal. Mr D. J. Telfer. spent the week-end in Invercargill. Miss May Collie, Bayswater, spent a few days with Mr and Mrs S. J. Collie during the week. Mr A. Keen spent the week-end in

Invercargill, as the guest of Mr and Mrs J. Keen. Mr and Mrs A. D. Crawford and family spent the week-end as the guests of Mr and Mrs J. J. Finn. Miss Mildred Egan, Wallacetown, was home for the week-end. Miss Munroe has returned to Wyndham. Miss H. Forde, Otautau, was home for the week-end.
