HOCKEY
SOUTHLAND ASSOCIATION. EXECUTIVE MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Southland Men’s Hockey Association was held last night, Mr J. A. Doig presiding over Messrs H. Drees, S. Smith, D. Deacon, C. Lockhart, R. Boyd, R. Morgan, C. Maloy, J. Wren, J. D. Gregg, P. Brass, H. S. Cordery, Stewart and Challis. Congratulations were extended to Mr Doig on his recent election as a city councillor.
Tire City Club (Dunedin) forwarded a clearance in the name of T. R. Ireland, who has joined up with the Central Club.
A letter was received from the secretary of the Balclutha Hockey Club suggesting a game at Invercargill on June 3.
It was decided to postpone the local competition on June 3 and to communicate such decision to the Otago Men’s Hockey Association in view of the fact that the annual Southland fixture with both Balclutha and the Otago High School Old Boys’ teams take place on that date, the secretary was instructed to request the Otago Association to likewise postpone its competition. It was resolved to extend an invitation to the Balclutha Club to send a team to Invercargill on June 3. It was decided that Central should be asked to play the Otago Old Boys at Dunedin and Collegiate the Balclutha team at Invercargill. The secretary was instructed to express appreciation to the St. Johns Ambulance Brigade for the services of members at the hockey grounds last season and to seek their services during the present year. Messrs Cordery and Gregg were reelected selectors for the season.
Mr Lockhart gave notice of motion for discussion at the next annual meeting that the constitution should be altered to provide for clearances being presented by players seeking transfers. The report of the pavilion committee was held over until the next meeting. Delegates were instructed to advise their respective teams to attend at Queen’s Park at 2 p.m. on Saturday for the purpose of repairing nets. The following is the draw for next Saturday’s games:— A Grade.—Central B v Collegiate A (Queen’s Park No. 3) at 3 p.m. (Mr L. Holmes); Central A v. Civil Service B (Park No. 4) at 3 p.m. (Mr J. D. Gregg); Collegiate B v. Civil Service A (Doon street) at 3 p.m. (Mr J. M. Davies). B Grade.—Central C v. Collegiate C (Doon street) at 1.45 p.m. (Messrs D. S. Deacon and F. J. Twiss).
