Mr S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commis* sioner, arrived in Invercargill by the midday express yesterday. Mr J. Burtenshaw, of Christchurch, arrived in Invercargill by motor car yesterday and is a guest at the Hotel Deschler. Mr A. W. Jones leaves for Wellington this morning to attend a meeting of the Advisory Council of the Broadcasting Board. Mr Major G. Irwin has been appointed sole teacher at the Castle Rock School. Mr Irwin was formerly stationed in Canterbury. The latest issue of the Gazette states that Messrs George Washington Dennis, Charles John Dey, Edmund Mortimer, Douglas Farquharson Leckie, Charles Cook, and Frank Waldron have been appointed members of the Makarewa Domain Board. The Gazette also announces that Mr William Moffitt has been appointed to the Waikaia Domain Board in place of the late Mr Colin Robertson. Prior to commencing the business at the annual meeting of the Aparima Branch of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday evening, the chairman (Mr J. D. Clouston) said that during last week death had removed a loyal member, Mr R. S. James, from their midst, and he asked all present to stand in silence as a mark of respect to his memory. The resolution was.carried in the usual manner, and the secretary was directed to forward a letter of sympathy to the relatives.
