WOMEN’S DIVISION
HEDGEHOPE BRANCH. On Tuesday last the monthly meeting of the Hedgehope Branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the hall. Mrs Young presided over a large attendance. Mrs Ross and Mrs Howarth, of the Mataura branch, gave a demonstration of basket making from tussock and raffia. The demonstrators showed, patience in showing each one who wished to learn. A number of the elder school children were present and they were busy with needle and raffia. A box on tatting and applique work was much appreciated. The president moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Ross and Mrs Howarth. FAIRFAX BRANCH. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Fairfax branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held last week, when there was a good attendance. Mrs Mitchell (president) presided. Two new members were welcomed by the president. Several proposals were made for different demonstrations.
Mrs Mclntosh gave an interesting demonstration on the making of paper flowers, some of which were afterwards sold to the members, the proceeds going to augment the funds of the branch. Mrs Mitchell thanked Mrs Mclntosh for her demonstration.
