FIGHT WITH THIEVES

DETECTIVE WOUNDED. (United Press Assn. —Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) Sydney, May 7. While investigating safe robberies, in two suburban railway stations at Birrong and Regents Park this morning two detectives surprised a couple of men breaking a safe at Berala station in the same locality. When they attempted an arrest one robber drew a revolver and fired two shots harmlessly. A fierce struggle followed, the detective firing and wounding one man in the thigh. The other escaped ’and was arrested later. The robbers used a jemmy during the struggle with the detectives, one of whom was injured in the face. The robbers were father and son.
