TORNADO IN ALABAMA

Nineteen people were killed and more than 200 injured when a tornado swept the three west and central Alabama communities early to-day. FORTY DEAD. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) Birmingham (Alabama), May 6. Spring storms, reaping destruction from the Mississippi Valley to the Atlantic seaboard, had left a toll of 40 known dead in its wake to-day, raising to nearly 200 the total lives taken by southern tornadoes since March.
