KING’S TROPHY
WIN FOR CANADA. NEW ZEALAND FOURTH. • (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, May 5. The result of the 1932 competition for his Majesty the King’s Trophy, fired for by schools throughout the Empire, has just been received by the Defence Department. The collated figures show that over 41,000 boys shot for the trophy, which constitutes a record. The trophy was again won by Canada with total points aggregating 257,341, or an average of 85.751 per boy. _ South Africa was next with total points of 247,716, or an average of 82.516; and Great Britain third with 217,486 points or an average of 72.398. New Zealand was next of the qualifying countries, with a total of 205,030 points, or an average of 68.134. Of the New Zealand schools, St. Patrick’s College (Silverstream), the Rotorua High School, and the Wanganui Collegiate School gained distinction. . . A feature of the competition was the number of girls’ schools in South Africa which competed, and did remarkably well. .
The report states that the’ re-appear-ance of New Zealand as a competing country for his Majesty’s trophy was most welcome, ‘and an improvement in her standard of marksmanship will undoubtedly follow upon a revival ‘of interest in these competitions.
