WAR ON TOTALISATOR
BOOKMAKERS IN ENGLAND. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, May 4. The Daily Express says that a syndicate of powerful bookmakers with a fighting fund of £1,000,000 has been formed to smash the popularity of the totalisator by outbidding it. Already the bookmakers have started a formal war by flooding the totalisators with “blower” money at the last minute in order to bring the totalisator’s price below that of .the bookmakers. Operations will start in connection with the big races. It is claimed in the last annual report of the Betting Control Board that the totalisator dividends averaged 50 per cent, higher than the bookmakers’ starting prices.
