PASSION PLAY VILLAGE
MAY BECOME HEALTH RESORT. Munich, December 8. A plan to turn Oberammergau, the Bavarian village world famous for its Passion Plays, in to a modern health resort, is being favourably considered by officials responsible for the welfare of the peasant inhabitants. German bankers are, it is understood, backing the plan. They are said to be willing to spend £75,000 on the erection of a kursaal and spa hotel. The harvests this year have been a failure, and the village is bankrupt. The authorities are therefore in favour of the plan, as it will provide employment for the idle Passion players. The plan must, however, be approved by all the villagers. There are many who vigorously oppose it.
