DEATH FROM INJURIES. (Per United Press Association.) Whangarei, December 23. Mary McGee, a half-caste Maori, aged 13, years, succumbed to injuries received on the beach at Whangaruru yesterday, when a big wave swept her from a log on which she was playing with other children and rolled it over her. Life was extinct when the doctor arrived from Hikurangi, 20 miles distant. RELIEF WORKER INJURED. Greymouth, December 23. John Monaghan, aged 39, a county relief worker residing at Coal Creek, was injured at 4.20 p.m. at the Cobden end of the railway bridge, a locomotive cowcatcher striking him on the forehead. The driver saw him lying beside the line, but a rake of trucks prevented an immediate halt. Monaghan bled from the wound, but remained conscious. He was removed to the hospital. Concussion is feared and his condition is serious.
