WYNDHAM PIPE BAND

ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Wyndham Pipe Band was held in the Public Hall, Edendale, on Saturday evening, when the President, Mr Malcolm McLeod, presided over a good attendance of members. . The following report was presented by the secretary, Mr J. M. Afchibald. We have to report the band having had a fairly quiet term in every way. For a considerable part of the year no practices were held owing to various reasons, chiefly owing to the fact that members could not find it convenient to leave their employment on occasions when the band were required to play. Also for the reason of not having a suitable room to practise in. However, some four months ago Hunter Bros.

and Rice’s grain store was secured and practices have been very well attended sinoe. On completion of the new pavilion on the Recreation Ground. at Edendale some few weeks ago in which building provision has been made for a band room, the band has now taken up their quarters there find we hope permanently. We find the new bandroom very suitable for our needs and we feel sure it will be a big factor in keeping the band together, and also improve the standard of playing. Pipe Major Cockrane continues in his position, and members are making steady progress under his leadership. The membership of the band has been kept at full strength and a keenness that tends well for the future is ' being shown. In conclusion our thanks are due to all those who supported us in various ways during the year, especially those who gave donations and bought members’ tickets. Mr McLeod, in moving the adoption of the documents, said the band had

done very well considering the times, and now they had a room of their own in the new pavilion, practices should be attended more regularly. Thanks were due to Pipe Major Cockrane and Drum Major Archibald for the enthusiasm they had shown throughout the year. The secretary said the band’s position at the present time if everything was squared up, would be £9 3/1 in credit. Pipe Major Cockrane seconded the motion which was carried unanimously.
