TUATAPERE NOTES

SCHOOL PICNIC. (From Ou Correspondent.) In the report of the concert held in aid of the Methodist Church fund the name of Master Bobby Wilson was omitted from the programme. This lad charmed the audience with his sweet soprano voice, and he responded to the repeated calls for further solos. A local lad handed Bobby a h ; box of chocolates from some one in the audience who wished to express his appreciation. The local school break-up was held last Friday and a picnic in the school grounds. The medal and certificate for dux of the school was presented to James Norman. This is the third occasion on which the dux medal has gone to the home of Mr and Mrs H. Norman. Two years ago Herbert topped the list and in 1931 his sister Joan won the medal and this year a younger brother has upheld the family honour. The headmaster and staff are to be congratulated on the high percentage of passes in the school and also in the proficiency examinations, in which only one pupil failed to obtain sufficient marks to pass. Valedictory.

Deep regret was expressed when it became known that Constable McCulloch had been transferred to the Arms Office, Invercargill, and that he and Mrs and Miss McCulloch would be leaving Tuatapere. On Friday evening Mrs Dodds and Misses Curow, Hamilton, Jenkins and Kerse were hostesses at a gift evening for Miss McCulloch, who is leaving for Invercargill shortly prior to her marriage to Mr J. Charlton asked Miss McCulloch to accept the numerous gifts as a slight token of esteem from her friends, at the same time referring to the guest’s good characteristics and wishing her happiness. Miss Kennedy and Messrs P. Hamilton and T.' Ballantyne endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks. Mr J. Porter and Mr J. McCulloch replied on behalf of Miss McCulloch. To Miss McCulloch the speaker handed a greenstone and silver butter knife, congratulating her upon her choice of a life-mate and wishing her happiness. The Sunday School superintendent, Mr Whyte, thanked Mrs McCulloch for assistance as a teacher and ever willingness to help.
