MUNICIPAL POLLS
ELECTIONS IN BRITAIN LABOUR GAINS NET ADVANTAGE COMMUNISTS DEFEATED (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 8.5 p.m.) London, November 2. In the municipal elections the results so far available show little change. A slight net advantage scored by Labour is due to the unemployment agitation. The gains and losses are:
No Communists have been elected. Ten stood at Bolton, but all were heavily defeated. Labour’s biggest success is at Oldham, where they captured six seats from the Conservatives, but they lost heavily at Plymouth, where Conservatives captured six Labour seats and Liberals two. A change at Sheffield, hitherto ruled by Labour, is that Labour is now in a minority of two. At Manchester the Conservatives have a majority of nine over all parties.
