OBITUARY
MR JAMES WILSON. (From Our Correspondent.) The late Mr James Wilson, who passed away at his residence, Merrivale road, on Sunday evening, was born at Greenock in 1865, and came out to New Zealand when he was 17 years of age. His first job was with Mr James Ramsay carting wheat from Merrivale Station, and he afterwards secured a ploughing contract on Elderslie. Deceased also worked for the late Captain Gardner at Birchwood Station, and later on the Bayswater Estate, both for long permits. Prior to taking a trip Home he spent seven years with the late Mr John Lindsay at “Strathmore.” Shortly after taking up his farm on Merrivale road he married Miss Dorothy Cameron in 1903. She predeceased him several years ago. While working on “Strathmore” deceased was a member of the Otautau Presbyterian Church choir, and he later took a keen and active interest in the Otautau branch of St. Andrew’s Scottish Society. He was also a member of the Waikouro School picnic committee, and his genial manner endeared him to a large circle of friends in that locality. The funeral took place at Forest Hall on Tuesday.
