SPRING FLOWERS

DISPLAY AT LUMSDEN.

keen competition.

The sixth annual ’spring show was held in the Radio Hall, Lumsden, on Saturday. Competition in all classes was very keen and in many cases only separated the competitors. The blooms bore evidence of good cultivation and careful attention by the exhibitors. The varieties in the show Were of extremely high quality, many comparatively new varieties being in cultivation in the Lumsden district. The show was very well organized and the method- of staging and labelling the exhibits make the task of the judging much easier. The judge expressed appreciation of the helpful assistance of the stewards. The standard of the entries for the Adamson Cup was extremely high and the judge’s task of fselecting the premier bloom was an unenviable one. The champion bloom Selected was a very fine Barrie Firetail shown by Mr Casey, of Balfour. Other outstanding blooms in this competition were Nobility Festive and white Conqueror. The Skene Cup allocated by the Southland District Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture for competition at the Lumsden Show, was awarded to a very fine Barrie shown by Mr James Clouston.
