MIGHTY EVEREST

ATTEMPT TO REACH SUMMIT.

ANOTHER BRITISH EXPEDITION.

(British Official Wireless.) • Rugby, October 8. Eleven British mountaineering experts have been invited to take part in the Mount Everest Expedition which leaves England early next year under the leadership of Mr Hugh Ruttledge. These include Mr F. P. Smythe, who led the successful expedition last year to the top of Mount Kamet, the highest peak ever scaled by man, and some of his companions on that venture, including Captain Burney, Mr E. Skipton and Di' Grune. Among others, all of whom, although young, have great experience, are Messrs Noel O’Dell, E. Shebbeare, C. Crawford, Captain Boustead, who took part in earlier Everest expeditions, and Dr McLean, Mr Wyn Harris and Mr J. Longland, climbers who distinguished themselves in the alps and elsewhere. A cheque for £lOO has been sent by the King towards the expenses of the expedition. The letter, expressing his Majesty’s good wishes for the success of the expedition, says it was with great satisfaction that the King had heard that Mr Rutledge had been appointed commander of the expedition, as his knowledge of mountaineering and intimate acquaintance .with the Himalayan people and Tibetans render him eminently fitted for this post.
