Miss Molly Thomson, of Invercargill, was the guest of Miss Isobel Shand for a few days last week. Mrs W. G. Clark and her daughter, Tottie, are visiting Dunedin. Miss Norma King, “Tynree,” Benmore, has returned home after spending a holiday with Mrs A. Hamilton, Browns.

Mrs J. S. Brass and Miss F. Brass, Invercargill, were the guests, of Mrs E. M. Raines, Essex street, last week. Mr and Mrs W. Bennetto, Wyndham, were the week-end guests of Mrs W.

Mr and Mrs D. Ogilvy, Lumsden, are the guests of Miss Heads, Park street. Mrs M. J. Goodall and Miss Doris Goodall recently spent a few days at Orawia.

Mr and Mrs A. Gerrard, Lady Barkly, left last week by motor to spend a few days in Dunedin. They were accompanied by Mrs G. P. Chewings. Mossbum.

Mr and Mrs A. Wilson and their small son Gilmour, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs R. M. Gilmour, have returned to their home at Roxburgh.

Miss N. Day, Invercargill, recently visited her parents at Lady Barkly. Mrs W. J. Cowie, Centre Bush, has been visiting Queenstown. Miss Maisie Young left last week to take up her new duties at the Hamilton Bum School.

Miss Athol Raines, Invercargill, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs E. M. Raines.

Mrs J. Prendeville and her daughter, Nightcaps, are holidaying at Hedgehops. Mrs M. Olive has returned from a holiday spent in Dunedin. Miss I. McDonald, Waikiwi, visited Miss H. Cowie during the week-end. At the Central Bowling Club’s euchre tournament on Monday evening last, Mrs W. Jamieson and Mrs H. A. Pierce played off for the ladies’ prize, the former being successful. M. B. Rutledge was the winner of the men’s prize, while Mr H. A. Pierce was the winner of the aggregate. The social committee of the Anglican Church held another successful euchre party in the Radio Tea Rooms on Friday evening last. The winners were:—Highest score, Mrs O. A. B. Smith and Mr Mathias; hidden number. Mrs P, Bradley and Mr J. Perrelle.

On. Wednesday evening last the Winton Football Club held its annual ball in the Limehills Hall, when the building was packed to overflowing. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing when a lengthy programme was put through, included in which were confetti and streamer dances. The Ambassadors’ Orchestra (Invercargill) provided the music, while Messrs C. Calder and I. McDougall were M.C's. At the monthly meeting of the Winton Plunket Society on Saturday last, the president, Mrs W. H. King, presided over a good attendance of members. Receipt of the McKinnon Trust’s yearly donation and interest from the Invercargill Savings Bank were acknowledged. Arrangements for raising funds were discussed and it was decided to approach the management of the local picture theatre with a view to running a benefit night in aid of the local Plunket Society. It was also decided to approach the Winton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union to discuss the prospects of co-operating with the Plunket Society in holding a stall on Show Day. Mrs J. R. Hamilton placed a bicycle at the disposal of the nurse during her visits to Winton, this offer being accepted with thanks. The report of the nurse of the work done in and about Winton for the month of August was as follows:—Winton, visited 4 times; homes, visited 20 times, attendance at rooms, adults 36, babies 32, children 8, older cases 16, new cases 4; new cases for the month, 5. The general health of the babies has been good.
