RAID BY DETECTIVES
ALLEGED GAMING HOUSE.
SIX ARRESTS MADE.

Auckland, October 7. A Chinese laundry in Pitts street which is alleged by the police to be used as a gaming house, was raided by detectives shortly after 2.30 p.m. They executed a search warrant on
the premises and took the occupants, a Chinese and five Europeans, into custody on charges of committing breaches of the Gaming Act. The detectives had no difficulty in gaining entrance to the building as the front door was open. On going inside they found four Europeans seated at a table, allegedly engaged in marking Pakapoo tickets. A Chinese was on the other side of the table. While the detectives were on the premises a fifth European entered. All the men were detained by the detectives who seized a number of papers and other material thought to be used in connection with the Pakapoo game. The arrested men later appeared before Mr McKean, S.M., in the Police Court. The Chinese, Lum Ming, was charged with keeping his premises as a common gaming house. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded on bail. The other accused were jointly charged with haying been found without lawful excuse in a common gaming house. All pleaded guilty and were each fined £1 in default 48 hours’ imprisonment.
