LUCKY ESCAPE
MOTOR FLOAT HITS TRAIN. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, October 7. As the Wellington-Palmerston train was pulling into Paekakariki station this morning, the driver of a float conveying three horses to the Otakl races from Trentham apparently was not aware of its proximity and made to cross the rails. Catching sight of the danger he applied the brakes promptly, but the float struck the train which was also being braked and suffered damage in front. The driver escaped, injury as also did the horses. They were Gay Court, Araios and Late Jest. They soon settled down after their fright, apparently none the worse for the shaking. The trainers, H. T. Benge and G. A. Palmer, were also on the float.
