(Rec. 10.55 p.m.) Paris, October 7. “A huge belt of concrete is France’s safeguard against invasion,” declared Mr Paul Hemier, Under-Secretary for Air, after inspecting France’s new frontier defence system which is being completed in 1934. He said the fortifications were especially strong on the south-eastern frontier. “From Briancon to Nice our chain of fortresses and pillboxes will withstand any attack, even from the air,” he said.
