IRAK JOINS LEAGUE
KING GEORGE’S CONGRATULATIONS. (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, October 5. King George has sent tbe following congratulatory telegram to the King of Irak: “I have learnt with the greatest pleasure of the admission of Irak to membership of the League of Nations, and I hasten to offer warm congratulations on this most auspicious event, which I trust will be followed by the increasing prosperity of your kingdom and a further strengthening of the cordial friendship existing between our two countries.” King Faisal, acknowledging the message, says: “I avail myself of this opportunity to send your Majesty most sincere gratitude for the valuable assistance which we received throughout past years from your Majesty and your people, which I regard as the chief factor in the attainment of our new status. We will always remember your acts of favour, and wish your Majesty’s Royal Family and people prosperity and welfare.”
Sir John Simon, in a congratulatory telegram to Jafal Pasha, the Irak Minister of Foreign Affairs, says his Majesty’s Government looks forward with confidence to close, cordial co-operation between the two Governments in the new relationship.
