WAIMATUKU NOTES
(From Our Correspondent.)
The final evening of the Tennis Club’s euchre socials drew a large attendance and the highest scores were returned by Mrs A. Anderson and Mr Herbertson. During the evening the president thanked the public for the generous support they had accorded the socials. He said that the club had a presentation to make to Mrs Lindsay, who was absent. He handed Mr McDowell a small token of the club’s appreciation of the music he had provided. An enjoyable dance followed the card games. Mr H. Southern acted as M.C. and Mrs B. Smith and Mr McDowell supplied the music.
While being manoeuvred to tip gravel in the store approach, Mr H. Gibb’s truck ran backwards into the steeply banked hollow at the side of the road. At first it appeared that the load would have to be tipped, but by cutting a more gradual incline and using a tractor to assist, the whole weight of nine to ten tons was got out without further mishap.
