Mrs H. C. Mac Gibbon is at present spending a holiday in Christchurch. Dr P. N. Moir, who has been on the staff of the Gore Hospital during the past few months, left for Dimedin last Wednesday. Mrs C. A. Sutton “Hydeholme” Waikaia, has returned home after a month’s holiday at Christchurch. Mrs A. T. Pettigrew left yesterday to spend a few days at Bluff. Mrs R. Irving, Otikerama, is at present on a visit to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs D. Little went down to Riverton for the week-end.

Mrs G. Pinckney. Glenary, Waikaia, is at present spending a month’s holiday in Christchurch. Dr V. Grater, who has been on furlough during the past six months has returned and resumed duties at the Gore Hospital. Mrs F. Wallis, sent., left last week to spend a holiday at Dannevirke, where she will be the guest of her daughter, Mrs A. F. Houston. Mrs Phillips, Invercargill, is the guest of her sister, Mrs H. A. Price, Denton street.

Miss Noelene Piller who has been spending a vacation with her parents Mr and Mrs T. L. Piller, Garnet street, has returned to Christchurch.

At the meeting of the Arts and Crafts circle of the Women’s Club, held on Monday evening of last week, Miss I. Sutherland of the Gore High School staff, gave a most interesting address on the life and writings of H. H. Munro (“Saki”). Miss Sutherland illustrated her remarks by reading a number of the writer’s short stories, which clearly brought out his descriptive style and delightful humour. At the conclusion of the lecture Mrs E. C. Smith expressed the thanks of the members for the enjoyable and instructive address which Miss Sutherland had given. A most successful and enjoyable dance promoted by the committee of the Gore High School Ex-Pupils’ Association, was held in the Gaiety Hall, on Wednesday evening of last week. Streamers, balloons and lights in the school colours, blue and gold, made attractive decorations, and music for dancing was supplied by the Footwarmers’ Orchestra. Extras were played by Messrs I. C. On Thursday evening last, a number of members of the music circle of the Women’s Club journeyed to Invercargill to entertain the members of the music circle of the Southland Women’s Club. On arival the visitors were welcomed by Mrs Stanley Brown (chairwoman of the Invercargill circle) and a delicious cup of tea was provided by the committee. At the conclusion of the programme Mrs Brown thanked the Gore ladies for the enjoyable entertainment they had provided and Mrs J. A. Edwards (chairwoman of the Gore circle) replied, expressing appreciation of the hospitality which had been extended to the Gore members. Those who made the trip were Mesdames J. A. Edwards, J.
