THE SESSION
PREPARATORY WORK OPENING IN MIDDLE OF SEPTEMBER MR FORBES’S STATEMENT (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, July 28. When seen to-day, the Prime Minister, (the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes) stated that Cabinet’s work would be well forward for the comencement of the next session of Parliament, which probably would open about the middle of September. TTie Departments of State had been requested to have their reports ready for presentation when Parliament opened and he hoped the House would get down to the consideration of the Estimates without loss of time, clearing a good deal of the formal business out of the way before the return to New Zealand of the Ottawa delegation. In regard to measures, he said there might be some arising out of the report of the National Expenditure Commission, and there might be Bills bearing on the decisions at Ottawa. He did not anticipate there would be a great deal of legislation on other matters, but he indicated that the long-delayed Consolidation of Companies Act and its amendments might be attempted, though he was not aware how far the preparation of the Bill had proceeded. He said definitely that no legislation would be brought down affecting wheat duties, which would stand.
