NEW SYSTEM
PAYMENT FOR MILK. PAHOTU DAIRY FACTORY. (Per United Press Association.) New Plymouth, July 28. A new system of payment for milk for cheese-making is to be tried by the Pahotu Dairy Company for the year. It is described as not a method of payment for fat, plus casein, but a payment for the butterfat on its cheese producing capacity, which is determined by the ratio of casein to fat in the milk. Mr P. O. Veale, scientist at the Hawera Dairy Laboratory, in conjunction with which the payment will be arrived at, said that at present payment was made to suppliers for fat, but it was not fat that the company sold. The farmer who supplied a quality of milk which would make a greater quantity of cheese was entitled to a greater return.
