STRUCK WITH POKER
ASSAULT AT DANCE. SHOP ASSISTANT IMPRISONED. (Per United Press Association.) Christchurch, July 28. Frank Mitchell, a shop assistant of Riccarton, charged with assaulting Leslie Gordon Taylor at Hornby during a dance, was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment by the Magistrate, Mr Mosley. The sub-inspector said the accused hit Taylor with a poker two or three times. He was under the influence of liquor. “Anyone who would use this poker on a man would either be not in his right senses or out looking for murder,” he added.
