PUREBRED FRIESIANS

SALE OF GLENSTUART STOCK. A SUCCESSFUL OFFERING. There was a large attendance at the farm at Ferndale yesterday when Messrs W. Y. Dickie and Sons held their third annual reduction sale of purebred Glenstuart Friesian cattle. The offering was a small one comprising some 27 head of cattle and a number of pigs. Prices for young bulls were good at the opening of the sale, but receded somewhat as buyers’ requirements were filled. For cows with good butterfat backing there was a keen demand and prices were satisfactory. Young bulls brought up to 26 guineas at which price Glenstuart Alcartra Segis, a promising yearling son of Bloomfield Alcartra Clothilde out _of the high producing cow Dominion Olga Segis, was sold to Mr R. A Dickie, of Mataura. A three-year-old bull by the same sire out of a great show cow realized 25 guineas. The highest price paid for females was 17J guineas, which was secured for the six-year-old cow Hobson Jannette Pontiac to the bid of Mr A. J. Cameron, of Wendonside. A small offering of pigs comprising Large White and Berkshire boars and a Middle White sow and litter attracted some attention and prices were fair. Mr C. E. Robertson conducted the sale on behalf of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co.
