BASKETBALL.
To the Editor.
Sir,—l notice “Defence” in the Basketball Notes is in the habit of making quite a feature of the fact that certain clubs had not paid their quotas for the forthcoming tournament to the executive. As there must be some reason for non-payment, I consider it very unfair for clubs to be named, as has been done, and I haven’t noticed any other sport use these methods. It would be more sporty if “Defence tried to discover the reason for nonpayment instead of advertising clubs which are “up against it.” The management of the game here has been, and still is, so unsatisfactory that should fair methods not be adopted at an early date “the big three” will be able to write the game down as history. While on the subject, I have not noticed any criticism in the notes in connection with coaches playing for, or refereeing their own teams in matches, nor yet any mention of incapable junior referees being put in charge of first and second grade matches at the close of the season, just when a good referee is needed most. Don’t show so much bias in your notes “Defence.” Let the heads that be take notice of the recent hockey match findings regarding referees, etc., and it will be ail to the good of basketball — 1 am ’ etC ” “ADVANCE.”
