SCOUT NOTES

(By .“Pathfinder.”) Makarewa troop meets on Friday, the 29th, when warrants and tenderfoot badges and tenderpad badges will be presented. A party will be going out from Invercargill and any other scouts or scouters who can arrange transport will be welcome. The census forms have now been received from Christchurch and will be distributed to'all troops in a day or so. •Will scoutmasters look over their rolls accordingly. • Nightcaps Troop. •Enthusiasm is the keynote of the local Boy Scout troop under Group Scoutmaster J. Phelan. On Friday evening a demonstration and social evening was held in the schoolroom, when there was quite a gratifying attendance. The programme comprised: Ambulance race with two staves, and one stave; follow the leader, in spiral figure; boat race, in pairs; rooster and hen fight; cubs .grand howl and canoe race; tenderfoot badges presented to George and Andy Marlich; second class badge to Colin Kilpatrick; and horseman’s badge to Charles Mason and Colin Welsh. One-year badges were received by the following: Alfred Excell, C. Mason, James Mason, John Magee, Colin Kilpatrick, Melville Grant, Weston Grant, William McCoy, Jack Thomson, Walter McCoy, Colin Welsh and Stuart Sinclair. Warrants were presented to Cub-Mistress Phelan. The British flag and troop flag were also received. Supper was handed round, after which the troop gave several hakas, these being much appreciated by the audience. Mr T. Burgess presented the stars, at the same time apologizing for the absence of Commissioner W. Excell. Mr Donald Sinclair presented the flags and warrants. Both speakers congratulated the scouts and superiors on the good work performed during the evening.
