RED CROSS SOCIETY

INVERCARGILL BRANCH. At the monthly meeting of the Invert cargill Red Cross Society there were present:—Mrs W. P. Smith (president, in the chair), Mesdames J. G. Petrie, H. Acton, A. Hanan, R. Henderson, A. Hamilton and T. E. Henshelwood. Headquarters advised that they had made application to the Government for a permit to hold an art union from which all branches of the society in the Dominion would benefit. The sum of £3 0/10 was received from the Ryal Bush branch of the Red Cross Society, this being the balance of funds from that branch. The ladies reported having visited the Southland Hospital weekly, there being at present six soldier patients. Mrs A. E. McNaughton reported having visited the Wallace Hospital, Riverton, weekly, there being at present one soldier patient. A letter was received from the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee expressing thanks for the appeal for books and games on behalf of the sanatorium patients. Twenty-one applications for underclothing issues were received and fourteen were granted. The Southland Boxing Association forwarded complimentary tickets for the soldier patients to the recent boxing contest. The Birchwood Hunt Club forwarded complimentary tickets to the recent meeting held in Invercargill for the soldier patients. Thanks were expressed to these organizations for their generous treatment to the soldier patients. .
