GORE’S WATER SUPPLY

NEW PUMPS WORKING SATISFACTORILY. Yesterday afternoon a Southland Times reporter called at the pump station and was shown the two new pumps that have been installed by the Gore Borough Council. Both pumps appear to be working very satisfactorily. They are the essence of compactness, while all the controls are very simple and up-to-date, giving a maximum of efficiency. When both pumps were running at capacity they increased the water pressure from the mains by 201 b per square inch. The pumps were running very quietly and sweetly. The working of the chlorine apparatus for purifying the water was also demonstrated. The amount of chlorine put into the water has now been reduced to a minimum, so that it is difficult to detect its presence in the water at all. The pump attendant’s quarters have recently been improved and added to, in order that his sojourn on the premises may be the more comfortable. A telephone has been installed and is connected direct to the Fire Brigade station so that the attendant may be immediately advised when a fire occurs. A report on the working of the pumps is to be presented to an early meeting of the Gore Borough Council.
