MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SITTING AT GORE. A sitting of the Gore Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday afternoon before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M. Judgment in favour of plaintiffs was given in the following civil claims:— United Trading Company v. Jamec Milne (Menzies Ferry), 18/5, Court costs 10/-; J. A. S. Aitken v. Albert Smart, £6 8/6, Court costs 17/6, solicitor’s fee 15/6; Trustees assigned estate of Stewart Bros. v. Harry Reginald Brown, Gore, 11/6, Court costs 10/-. Thomas Forrest, Clinton, v. Albert Smart, Gore, £ll, Court costs £1 5/-. Ford’s (Gore) Ltd., proceeded against Alexander Reid, shepherd, of Mossbum, on a judgment summons claim for £54 2/-. Defendant gave evidence that he was a married man with no family. He was only in casual work and he could not see liis way clear to pay the debt as he had no prospects of employment until October. No order was made. No order was made in the case in which J. R. Henderson proceeded against Robert Hutton, Gore, on a claim for £7 19/6. Ellen Kennedy, Dunedin, proceeded against Alexander Mclntosh on a claim for £8 8/-. Counsel for plaintiff said that the claim was for balance of rent alleged to be due, while the dispute was in regard to the rate of rent charged. The plaintiff claimed 14/- per week as rent for the house in Pomona street, Gore, while the defendant maintained that 10/- per week was sufficient. After evidence had been heard, his Worship said he was quite satisfied that the house was rented at 14/- per week, despite the fact that the defendant regarded 10/- per week as being sufficient. Three pounds of the amount had been paid and accordingly, judgment would be entered for plaintiff for £5 1/-.
