Miss Mary Shand, of Timaru, spent the week-end with Miss Lsobel Shand, Great North Road. Miss J. McNaught, of the staff of the Southland Hospital, is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs E. Horne, Park street. Miss E. Crisp, of Invercargill, spent the week-end with Mrs M. J. Forde. Mrs F. Clapton, Park street, was a visitor to Dunedin recently. Miss E. Little, of Hokonui, who has been holidaying with Miss M. Gill for the past month, returned home during the week. Mr W. Davey, of the local Post Office staff, is spending his annual holidays in Dimedin. Miss P. Balch spent the week-end with Miss M. Norman, Forest Hill. Miss C. Muir, Tuturau, is holidaying with her sister, Mrs Campbell, Clyde street. Miss Margaret Kerse has returned to Tuatapere after spending a few days with Mrs J. B. Wilson, Park street. Mrs G. Rouse, East Limehills, has been holidaying in Queenstown. Mr and Mrs F. Moore returned from Dunedin during the week. Mrs J. A. Stewart and Miss B. McGregor, of Centre Bush, have returned from a holiday spent in Dunedin. Miss Marjorie Schofield spent a few days at Bluff recently. At the weekly euchre tournament of the Forest Hill Tennis Club last Tuesday evening the winners were Miss M. Norman and Mr G. Forde. Twelve tables participated at the weekly euchre tourney of the Central Bowling Club in the Masonic Hall last Monday evening. The ladies’ prize went to Mrs H. Pierce and the men’s to Mr H. A. Pierce. Miss D. Pattinson, who has been an inmate of the Southland Hospital for the past month, has returned home. The Oreti Hall was packed to capacity last Wednesday evening on the occasion of a welcome home dance being extended to Mr and Mrs H. Baird, who last week returned home from their honeymoon. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by the Black Cat Orchestra (Winton). The M.C., Mr J. Deegan, extended a cordial welcome to Mr and Mrs Baird to the district. He wished them every happiness in their new sphere of life and on behalf of the gathering presented the young couple with a chiming clock. In reply, Mr Baird, on behalf of his wife and himself, thanked the gathering for the valuable gift and expressed pleasure at the presence of such a large number. Twenty-seven tables participated at the weekly euchre tourney of the St. Thomas’s Tennis Club in Hamilton’s Hall last Tuesday evening when the prize-winners were Miss M. Bourke and Mr W. Murphy. The prize-winners at the Fire Brigade’s euchre tournament in the Oddfellows’ Hall last Thursday evening were Mrs H. E. Pearse and Mr M. Boyle.
