BALFOUR NOTES

HOCKEY. (From Our Correspondent.) On Saturday afternoon last the Dipton ladies’ hockey team travelled to Balfour and suffered defeat at the hands of the local team. The game was rather one-sided as Balfour had fielded its strongest team to date, and had the visitors on defence nearly all the time. The final score was Balfour ten goals, Dipton one. Mr J. H. McMath controlled the game. Balfour Hall Company. The annual meeting of the Balfour Hall Company was held on Saturday evening, the chairman, Mr J. R. Keown, presiding over the following members: Mrs Keown, Messrs R. Grant, T. Hood, G. McCaldron and R. Shuttleworth (secretary). The bal-ance-sheet showed a credit balance of £9 7/7. The election of one director resulted in Mr J. Cowie, retiring director, being re-elected. Sitting directors are Messrs J. R. Keown, T. Hood, R. Grant and R. Church. Retiring directors for next year are Messrs J. R. Keown and R. Church. Trustees for public are Mesdames Church and Keown, Messrs G. McCaldon and R. Shuttleworth. Mr Keown was reelected chairman and Mr F. Young auditor. The secretary of the local Football Club wrote asking for a reduction in hall rent for fortnightly quadrilles. The secretary was instructed to reply stating that a 50 per cent, reduction had been made last year. It was dedided that a reduction of 20 per cent, be made in all other rents.
