CUSTOMS REVENUE

INCREASE SHOWN. Both the Customs revenue and the beer duty for May, 1932, show an increase over the returns for May, 193 L Details are as follows:—

IN NORTHERN CENTRES DUNEDIN. The net Customs duty collected at Dunedin during the month ended today totalled £42,894 10/6 compared with £22,037 14/8 for May of last year. Beer duty was £20,132 3/- as against £lB 206 14/8. Petrol tax brought in £12,320 12/- (£12,803 18/6) and tyre tax £1033 8/6 (£958 1/-). CHRISTCHURCH. The Customs returns for the port of Christchurch during May with a comparison with last year were:

WELLINGTON. The net Customs revenue collected at Wellington during May totalled £147,554 against £132,729 for the corresponding May last year. The total includes £13,008 for the extra twopence a gallon petrol duty. This was not included in last year’s total. The duty collected on petrol in May was £39,024 at sixpence a gallon, making the total £520,033, Including the twopenny levy. The tyre tax for May was £1535 and beer excise duty £5638.
