POWER BOARD RATING.

To the Editor. Sir, —As a ratepayer of the Southland County I would like an explanation of the attitude of the two members representing the county ratepayers as to why they voted for the special rate of 3-16 -of a penny in the pound on the properties of the Southland County, Wallace County and part of Tuapeka. Now, Sir, this is a special rate which affects the counties stated, and under the burden the primary producer is labouring at present in paying 3-16 d more than the city dweller, I don’t altogether think it cricket, but perhaps those gentlemen will be able to give a satisfactory explanation.—l am, etc., HARD-UP RATEPAYER. [An explanation was given sometime ago when the decision to afford relief to ratepayers was taken. Certain districts as a result of more recent valuations would have received more relief than others. The special 3-16ths of a penny is to equalize the relief, not to give anyone a special benefit.— Ed. S.T.] 1 .
