A STRENUOUS DAY

THE HON. A. HAMILTON. VISIT TO BACKBLOCKS. (Per United Press Association.) Gisborne, iviay 30. The Hon. A. Hamilton, Minister of Internal Affairs, who, accompanied by Mr K. S. Williams, M.P., left Gisborne on Saturday for the East Coast spent a strenuous day to-day in the backblocks. The Minister reached Teararoa this morning from Ruatoria and accompanied by a party of settlers set out for the back country, making a thorough inspection of the land and listening to the settlers’ experiences etc. The Minister’s practical knowledge of farming favourably impressed the settlers. The party returned to Teararoa this evening where the Minister inquired into the rating and financial troubles of the Matakaoa County Council. The Minister leaves for Ruatoria tomorrow morning and expects to return to Gisborne on Wednesday.
