U.S. TENNIS TEAM

AUSTRALIAN INVITATION. TOUR MAY EVENTUATE. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Philadelphia, May 29. Mr Clemenger, manager of the Australian Davis Cup team, approached the executive committee of the United States Lawn Tennis Association, all the members of which are attending the matches here, and asked for a decision on the invitation of the Australian Tennis Association for an American team to visit Australia at the conclusion of the meeting. The president of the United States Association, Mr Carruthers, informed the Australian Press Association that the most he could say at the present time was that the invitation was under favourable consideration. “We are the recipients of many invitations,” he said. “It becomes a problem to provide teams for India, the Netherlands and Germany among the many nations asking for such, and I fear we will be compelled to decline nearly all, but we look upon the Australian invitation in a very favourable light. I must consult my finance committee and sometime during the coming week in New York a decision will be reached.”
