WELLINGTON’S RATES. CONTRIBUTIONS WITHHELD (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, May 23j Consideration of the estimates forth® year, the consequent striking of rates, and the passing of several formal resolutions concerning- the renewal of loans, comprised the business of a special meeting of the Wellington City Council. The Mayor, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, made a survey of the city’s finances and stated that there would be no reduction in the rates this year, and also that the city’s contribution to the National Art Gallery and the Museum would be withheld this year.
