BRITISH THEATRES

BAN ON FOREIGN ARTISTS.

MISAPPREHENSION REMOVED.

(British Official Wireless.) Rugby, March 23.

The misapprehensions -which appear to have arisen, particularly in the United States of America, regarding the attitude of his Majesty’s Government towards actors and concert artists coming into this country', were removed in the House of Commons in a statement by the Parliamentary Secretary) for Labour, Mr R. S. Hudson. He said the Labour Minister thought it necessary to scrutinize more closely applications in respect to concert artists, but otherwise no change of policy had been made, or was contemplated. Actually, in the past six months out of a total of 1161 applications by foreign artists to appear in concerts, theatres, or variety halls, only 60 had been refused. As regards the United States there bad been 135 applications and seven refusals, none of which affected actors or concert artists.
