TECHNICAL COLLEGE

OLD STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Southland Technical College Old Students’ Association was held last night when Mr G. Skipworth presided over a good attendance. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet (already published), the chairman referred to the healthy financial position of the association which, he said, reflected credit on the committee. Notwithstanding the period of. stress, the year’s workings had resulted in a profit of £l2. Ho referred to the success of the dances held under the auspices of the association, and said he hoped that in future the attendance would include a larger percentage of members. It was to be hoped that some functions of educational value would be included in the association’s pro gramme. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron, Dr. D. E. Hansen (reelected) ; president, Mr G. Skipworth (reelected) ; hon. vice-president, Mr W. G. Aldridge; secretary, Mr V. Lepetit; treasurer, Mr N. C. Poole; committee, Misses E. Anderson, 0. Brandford, A. Hewitt, E. Smith and L. Keane, Messrs N. Anderson, A. Brandford, J. Blampied, G. Good and F. Lawton. It was resolved that, the executive should in future consist of a patron, a president, a vice-president, a secretary and treasurer and five male and five female representatives, each to represent one of the sports clubs affiliated, if possible. It was decided that all past-presidents of the association should be life members. Mr V. Poole suggested that in an endeavour to secure thoroughly representative office-bearers, nomination papers should be circularized at the end of each year to all old students, a date being stipulated for the receiving of such nominations by the secretary. The suggestion was adopted. The annual subscription was fixed at 2/6 per annum. It was resolved that ex-pupils of other technical colleges in New Zealand should be eligible for election as associate members of the association. A motion that office-bearers must be financial by a date to be fixed by the incoming committee (otherwise they would automatically cease to be officials) was carried. It was resolved that February 28 should be the close of the association’s year and that the annual meeting should take place by the third week in March. Fourteen members were stipulated as constituting a quorum for an annual meeting and seven as a committee quorum. It was moved as a recommendation to the incoming committee that the treasurer should produce a balance-sheet at the meeting following each social function. Die cups won by the Collegiate basketball and ladies’ and men s hockey teams were presented by the chairman, who congratulated the players upon their creditable performances during the season.
