OBITUARY
MR. GEORGE McMILLAN. (Contributed.) With the recent, death of Mr George McMillan, of Waituna, at the age of 71 years, there passed away a man held in high regard by all who knew him. He took no prominent part in public affairs, but was a great lover of his home and exerted a kindly and genial influence among a wide circle of friends. The late Mr. McMillan was born in Stirlingshire, Scotland, in April, 1861. Thirty-three years ago he married Miss Christina Anderson. In 1907 he came to New Zealand on the Corinthic and took up farming. For about two years he farmed properties at Te Houka and Lovells’ Flat and then moved to Benhar, where he spent seven years. It was in 1916 that the family settled in Southland, when Mr McMillan took a farm at Waituna, which he ran until the time of his death. The deceased is survived by his widow and five sons—James, a teacher at Fernhills, Peter, a farmer at Conical Hills; and William, George and Fergusson, farmers at Waituna.
