MATAURA AFFAIRS.

To the Editor. Sir, —Had “Citizen” made the “Amende Honorable” when I exposed his “mare’s nest” in my first letter I would not have troubled you for further space. However, I am of the opinion that his last letter contains more piffle' to the inch as any correspondent to your valuable paper as he fails, or perhaps refuses, to see and deal with facts. “Citizen” states that since his first letter it is pleasing to note that three or four local unemployed have been given work on the theatre. Well, Sir, the fact remains that had Mr “Citizen” investigated the matter he could have been pleased before he wrote because he could have gathered information to the effect that two-thirds of the men employed were Matauraites. It is apparent though, that “Citizen’s” real grievance is against the Borough Council for he insinuates by innundo that so-me thing improper has been done by this body. If “Citizen” is honestly of the opinion that a smoke screen is being thrown over the "doings and neglect” of the council surely it is his duty to expose such “neglect and doings.” After investigations I am thoroughly convinced that the interests of the borough have been fully protected and that “Citizen’s” innundo against the council is absolutely unfounded. In conclusion may I assure “Citizen” that he has made a very poor shot in endeavouring to saddle the authorship of my letter upon the head of the council, and further, in attempting to provide me with a more suitable “notn de plume.” I Mil, etc., BLUFF JACK.
