NEW GOLD REEF
DISCOVERY NEAR BLENHEIM. (Per United Press Association.) Blenheim, March 19. A syndicate which has discovered and opened up a new gold reef on the Waikaihu Stream, near Havelock, has received the result of an assay of stone made by the Director of the School of Mines, Westport. Five samples were submitted, and values ranged from 18 dwts 15.4 grain# of gold a ton to 4oz 17dwt 6.6 grains a ton Another sample produced 2oz 4dwt 8.7 grains, another loz 6dwt 7.8 grains, and the last loz lOdwt 9.3 grains. Values at £4 an ounce, worked out at £l9 9/1 a ton for the best sample down to £3 15/7 for the worst one, the other values being £8 17/5, £5 5/3 and £6 1/6 respectively. The syndicate freely admits that the samples were picked specimens from the inside of the reef but, nevertheless, the members are satisfied, that they are fairly representative of the quality of the reef.
