GOLDEN JUBILEE
CELEBRATIONS AT WAIRIO. In connection with the celebrating of the golden jubilee of the Wairio School which takes place at Wairio on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, the following programme will be carried out: Wednesday.—All ex-pupils, committee men and well-wishers will assemble at the school when the official welcome will take place at 1 p.m. At 1.30 a roll-call of former teachers and pupils will be taken, after which addresses by past teachers and pupils will be given. Afternoon tea will be served at three o’clock, after which photograps of succeeding decades of pupils will be taken. In the evening a grand ball will be held in Mr Gardner’s hall, this function being open to ex-teachers, pupils and wellwishers. Thursday.—ln the morning visitors will be taken for trips round the district and coalfields, leaving about 10 o’clock. A picnic and sports meeting will take place during the afternoon, commencing about 1 o’clock, and the whole proceedings will be brought to a close with a young people’s dance until midnight. A great number of former pupils have signified their intention of being present and should the present beautiful weather continue the jubilee of the school should be a great success.
