NEW SOUTH WALES AMENDMENT.
ALLOWED TO STAND OVER. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 10.45 p.m.) Sydney, March 19. The Companies Act Amendment Bill was allowed to stand over in the Legislative Council after a petition praying for its modification was presented and counsel was heard at the bar of the House on behalf of Messrs R. Parker and D. Packer. He explained tli.'R the financial position of certain newspapers was affected and asked the House to say it was not the place to deal with matters of such grave importance to companies. The Sydney Morning Herald says it learnt in the lobbies that the Ministry has decided to drop the Bill as it would be defeated in the Council, and it is rumoured that Mr Concannon threatened to resign if the Government went ahead with the measure.
